C.E. Bharathan Govt Higher Secondary School, formerly known as Govt Girls High School, Mahe is one of the leading and the most sought after schools in Mahe region. It is located in Mahe district of Puducherry Union Territory. This region lies in the state of Kerala and so the mother tongue is Malayalam. It was established in the year 1961. It was upgraded as Higher Secondary School in 1997. It is named as C.E. Bharathan Govt Higher Secondary School, Mahe after the renowned former Education Minister Late C.E. Bharathan, a native of Mahe. The school is co-educational since 2002 and the medium of instruction was both in Malayalam and English. The school actually consisted of grades V to XII. But now grades V to VIII are moved to a middle school in Mahe and our institution at present consists of grades IX to XII and the medium of instruction at present is English only. There were both Science and Commerce batches in Higher Secondary section till last academic year. But this year, the Science batch is removed and Commerce - Maths and Humanities batches are introduced in this institution. Three hundred and sixty one students are seeking education from here at present. Though the school comes under the control of the Directorate of School Education, Puducherry, it is affiliated to Kerala State Board in respect of syllabus and the examination.

Twenty two resourceful teachers serve in this school excluding a Vice Principal and a Headmistress. to identify their interest areas and develop their innate strengths. A very active Science Club comprising of 54 members is functioning in this school at present. Students bring glory to our institution by participating in Science Fair, Science Drama, Seminar Presentation, Science Projects, Role Play, Sports etc. Girl students are given training in self defence every year with the RMSA fund. Our school emphasises on discipline, dedication, sincerity and hard work.
