We are living in an era of abundant opportunities; nevertheless toughest challenges invariably loom large in front of us. Educational institutions are doing their best to keep up with the dynamic times and every institution is bracing up well to make students come out with flying colours. Will that be enough for the students to be successful in their lives? Do all students come to school only to get good grades? I know from my interaction with the students that they have a long wish list of expectations from the school. They wish that the school provided them a platform to explore and exhibit their talents; they wish the school were a place to have fun; they wish they could vent out their emotions; they wish the school did everything to prepare them ready for the future challenges. And no student ever wants the school to be always fun without doing anything worthwhile. All that they expect is a judicious mix of all the above so that they get the experience of living a life and just not learning how to live.

We, the staff and students of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Virugambakkam take this opportunity to offer our humble Pranams to Swami Swaroopanandaji, who has taken charge as the Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide.

The Vidyalaya had its humble beginning at Community Hall, Chinmaya Nagar Stage 1, Chennai -111, on Vijayadasami Day, in October 1970 with the blessings of our Pujya Gurudev H.H.Swami Chinmayananda. Later in the year 1972, the school was shifted to an old building situated in one acre land earmarked for school in Chinmaya Nagar Stage II, Chennai – 600 092. From a meagre strength of 50 in 1972, in four decades, the Vidyalaya has made remarkable progress. Today, we have more than 2090 students. In 1982 the foundation stone was laid and the School Building Committee was constituted by Our Pujya Gurudev. On 16th January 1986, the ground floor of the school building was inaugurated by our Pujya Gurudev. All the three floors measuring 45,000 sq.ft, with three well equipped labs were completed in 1992.

This new building accommodates all the classes from KG to Standard 12. One more wing (Ground + 2 Floors) with 9 classrooms was added to the main building in the year 1996 for KG children. In the year 2000 another block with 4 classrooms were added and in the year 2002, our school auditorium “Chinmaya Kalai Arangam” and 4 classrooms were added. To promote technology aided teaching we built Multimedia room, language lab and mathematics lab with state of the art facilities in the year 2005. We have 18 new classrooms in the 3rd floor, a modern physics lab and computer lab and e-learning facility has also been added to the existing facility in the year 2015.
