The most venerable Bhagwan Dev Atma founded Dev Samaj in 1887. In his teachings he laid great stress on imparting education to the women, because, he felt that by educating the girl child the whole family gets educated. This being the uppermost thought in his mind he started numerous educational institutions for women. This school was established in 1957 in Sector-18 as High School. It was recognized by Punjab Education Department and shifted to its own campus in Sector-21-C in 1959. The school is on grant-in-aid since 1967. In 1988 the Senior Secondary classes were also added to the school. Since 2007 this school is running as co-educational institution. It has an imposing building and excellent facilities for extra-curricular activities. Special attention is given to the moral values in the students.
As a life worker of Dev Samaj, Shriman Ishwar Singh Ji imbibed the teachings of his master in his life and became a torchbearer in all the initiatives taken by Dev Samaj. He dedicated his life to education and served Dev Samaj Girls High School Moga as Principal for 25 years. He acted as Principal of ‘Dev Samaj Higher Life Academy’ for 26 years. He acted as Secretary, Dev Samaj for 18 years and breathed his last on 30 Aug. 1967. During his long association of 60 years with Dev Samaj, Shriman Ishwar Singh Ji was instrumental in guiding numerous persons towards higher way of life. He led a pious, selfless, moralistic and spiritual life. The Chandigarh Administration has allowed the payment of Grant-in-Aid to the various Privately Managed Recognized Schools as per provisions of Punjab Education Code applicable in UT Chandigarh in order to encourage and extend the enterprise in Education. Such grants are given only for the purpose connected with secular instructions without reference to any religious instructions. This grant is subject to the condition that the said institution shall have the manage committee approved by the Education Department, UT Chandigarh. The said institution shall follow the pattern of syllabus and other criteria of admission as per the Govt. norms and any other condition imposed by the competent authority as per the rules.
