Special feature of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chouldari is its co educational residential nature where students coming from diverse cultural and socio -economic backgrounds live together, learn from each other's values and respect each other's traditions. The school provides education beyond class room by conducting various curricular and co- curricular activities both inside and outside the class rooms. Students get an opportunity to excel in the field of science through activities, expiriments in well equiped labs. They also get an opportunity to showcase their talents in various fields. Academics and co-curricular activities including sports are given equal encouragment and support by the staff and principal of this Vidyalaya. 

The National Policy on Education-1986 envisaged setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, that would bring out the best of rural talent.

It was felt that children with special talent or aptitude should be provided opportunities to progress at a faster pace by making good quality education available to them irrespective of their capacity to pay for it. Such education would enable students from rural areas to compete with their urban counterparts on an equal footing; seamlessly assimilating and intefrating them into the mainstream of the society.
