It is with great delight that I welcome you to The Keins School on behalf of the staff and the children. We trust that this site will answer most of the questions you may have regarding the School, and help you towards making the right choice for your child’s education.
On the pages of this website, you will learn about a truly remarkable school. Our school is remarkable for many reasons: it is the living, breathing embodiment of the vision of its founder, Mrs. Vasantha Selvanagayam, which apart from academic achievement also valued the development of team-spirit, mutual respect and a sense of responsibility to oneself and to others.
Our school is the legacy of those who shared our Correspondent’s value of education and her love of this beautiful island and its inspiring, gifted people. Our school is also remarkable for not only surviving but, indeed, prospering, throughout the twentieth century. The school has made its unique way through the many challenges of history, thanks in no small part to those who have cared deeply about it for decades. You can read about that story in School History.
Respect involves valuing people and property so that neither is dishonoured. It requires a person to develop pro-social skills, to be tolerant and able to accept individual differences. An obligation is given to abhor harassment or prejudice in any form. There is a requirement to respect oneself and to adopt a lifestyle that promotes wellbeing. Students at The Keins School will be required to respect the right of teachers to teach and students to learn, within a caring and supportive environment.
Responsibility requires the acceptance of accountability and the developing of the skills associated with being a good team player as well as an effective leader. The concept embraces the virtues of being trustworthy, pro-active and of having the courage and initiative necessary to change those things which should be changed.
Integrity encompasses propriety, honesty and a commitment to upholding that which is right. It includes the obligation to act fairly and to exercise proper governance. It requires The Keins School to be responsible in the management of all its assets. This means that the School will seek to be just in all its dealings.
