Pharmacy Program is a nationally recognized leader in pharmacy practice, and education in Oman. It was established in Muscat in 1991 with an intake of 25 students. It aims to graduate national pharmacists as required by the Omani Health Services, who are committed to lifelong learning, competent, competitive, confident and be able to work effectively in various areas of pharmacy practice and can influence the health system positively and provide pharmaceutical care and high quality health services.
Today, more than at any time in the history of pharmacy, the profession needs bright, enthusiastic young students to lead the career to even greater accomplishments. In fact, Omani Nationals who are recruited, educated and trained in their homeland in the field of pharmacy are more stable and productive since such graduates will be better able to understand the environment and work efficiently under its conditions.
The Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) established Oman Assistant Pharmacy Institute (OAPI) which started teaching the diploma program since 1991. starting from the academic year 2013/2014 the Directorate General of Human Resource Development through the M.O.H and according to the Health Vision 2050 has started the implementation of Oman Pharmacy Institute (OPI) which offers Bachelor degree in pharmacy and which was able to prepare graduates capable to function in accord with the requirements of a specific up to date provision.
Recently, after issuance of the Royal Decree (182018), Oman Pharmacy Institute was included as a separate program under the umbrella of the Oman College of Health Sciences (OCHS) affiliated to Ministry of Health. The study in the program follows the credit hours system. It provides 4 years professional program distributed on 8 semesters, total credits 137 cr. Hr. (131 courses + 6 Field training).
