PM SHRI SCHOOL JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA, ANANTAPUR
The Vidyalaya is setup in Lepakshi due the historical, cultural and archeologically significance of the site, the archetype for the largest monolithic bull in India. The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao on 14th September, 1987 being the M.L.A. of Hindupur constituency. Primarily, the Vidyalaya got launched in the police barracks of Hindupur on 15th Feb1988. The school got shifted to the permanent site in the academic year 1991–92.
Under the National Education Policy-1986, such residential schools have been envisaged, named Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which will make every possible effort to bring forward the best rural talent.
It is felt that specially abled children should be given proper opportunities by providing them quality education irrespective of their fee paying capacity so that they can progress rapidly in their lives. Such education will help these rural students to compete with their urban counterparts.
The Navodaya Vidyalaya system is a unique experiment in the field of school education in India and elsewhere. The significance of this experiment lies in the targeted selection of talented rural children and the effort to provide them with quality education at par with the best education provided under the residential school system.
