Women's education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has received a great deal of care and attention, which has enabled them to move confidently towards achieving their ambitions and demonstrating their excellence in various fields, which has made them stand out not only locally but also globally,
where we find examples of educated Saudi women and specialized researchers who are pointed out and whose names are mentioned in international forums and fields of science, proving their success and competence, which is no less than their counterparts in other advanced countries.
Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is one of the fruits of care and attention to women's higher education. This began early, when the General Presidency for Girls' Education established the first college of education for girls in 1390 AH, corresponding to 1970 AD. Then, colleges were opened one after the other until their number reached 102 colleges, including university, intermediate, and community colleges distributed in 72 Saudi cities, with 600,000 female students.
In Riyadh alone, there were six colleges: the College of Education for Literary Sections - the College of Education for Scientific Sections - the College of Education for Teacher Training - the College of Social Service - the College of Education for Home Economics - the College of Arts. In 1427 AH, a royal decree was issued to establish the first university for girls in Riyadh under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, which includes the six colleges located in Riyadh after their restructuring, in addition to the establishment of several new colleges that serve the development process in the Kingdom.
The university was activated in 1428 AH with the appointment of its first director, Her Highness Dr. Al-Jawhara bint Fahd Al Saud. On Wednesday 10/29/1429 AH, the university was honored by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques laying the foundation stone for the university city, and at that time, he decided to change its name to Princess Noura bint Abdul Rahman University, in reference to the sister of the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman, may God have mercy on him.
