The current headquarters of Taif University is located in Al-Hawiyah in Taif Governorate, which is located within the Emirate of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region in the west of the Kingdom on the eastern slopes of the Sarawat Mountains at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level in the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula. The university also has three branches in Taif Governorate: Turabah Branch (approximately 150 km from Taif), Al-Kharmah Branch

• The college began its studies in 1401 AH, and the number of students enrolled was 85 male students and 180 female students in the following specializations: Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, English Language, Mathematics, and Biology, in addition to the Department of Educational Sciences as an auxiliary department.
• After the establishment of Umm Al-Qura University, Royal Decree No. (24187) was issued on 10/27/1402 AH to include the College of Education in Taif in it.
• In the year 1419 AH, Royal Decree No. (17) was issued on 4/6/1419 AH to establish the College of Science in Taif, and studies were organized in the departments of mathematics, biology, physics, and computer science.
• In the same year, royal directives were issued to grant King Saud’s palace (may God have mercy on him) in Al-Hawiyah to the university branch, with a total area of 380,000 m2, to which the two colleges and their departments would move, in addition to the branch administration, on 5/18/1423 AH.
• Then, the Royal Decree No. (22042) was issued on 5/10/1424 AH to transform the Umm Al-Qura University branch in Taif into an independent university. Then, the Royal Decree No. (20047) was issued on 4/19/1425 AH to name the university Taif University.
• Since the issuance of the royal order to establish the university, the competent committees have begun to develop the university structure and create new colleges: the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences, the College of Computers and Information Technology, the College of Engineering, the College of Pharmacy, and the College of Community Service and Continuing Education. Supporting deanships have also been established: the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Deanship of Library Affairs, the Deanship of Graduate Studies, the Deanship of University Development, and the Deanship of Supporting Studies.
• Construction was completed at the headquarters, and (30) administrative and academic facilities were built on it, including (130) lecture halls, (90) laboratories, in addition to a number of research units. The university also obtained from His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God have mercy on him - the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Medical Education Complex as a grant to the university.
• Royal approval No. (6204/M) dated 8/18/1427 AH was issued to separate the College of Arts from the College of Education. In 1428 AH, the College of Education and the Girls’ Colleges were attached to the university, and they were restructured and the educational departments were merged with their corresponding departments in the College of Education, the literary departments with their corresponding departments in the College of Arts, and the scientific departments with their corresponding departments in the College of Science.
• After the health colleges were attached to the universities in the academic year 1429/1430 AH, Royal Approval No. (5088/MB) was issued on 8/7/1432 to restructure the Health College for Boys and the Health College for Girls in Taif to become the College of Applied Medical Sciences and the College of Dentistr
