ORIGIN AND HISTORY

Our School was started in the Year 1978 in a small rented room at Mannoor Madom Palace, Mavelikara, by Retired Head Master, Late. Shri. P.Gopinathan Pillai. It was a very humble beginning, with just one teacher and one ayah and a very few local children in Kindergarten class. Mavelikara was just a little town and there were already several well established schools in the vicinity. It was probably against all odds that this retired person ventured to start another School. The School was asked to vacate within a few months of starting to function and had to be moved to another location, Ulsavamadom Palace, Mavelikara, in the same year, ie. 1978. By the next year there were about 20 children in nursery classes, two teachers and an ayah. By the academic year 1981-82 the school had around 40 students in nursery, Std.1 and Std.II, three teachers and two ayahs.

Space was becoming a constraint and some land near the Boys’ High School was taken on rent by May 1982, a temporary shed constructed on it and the school shifted to that location. The founder Principal expired within a year of the School’s shifting and then there was actually nobody to systematically look after the daily affairs of the School. The School functioned in this temporary structure for quite a few years. By 1986, the School had classes up to Std.IV with adequate teachers and staff. At this the time it was being run more or less solely due to the efforts of the staff. The School had no recognition from the Government or affiliation of any Board. There was no management of any sort and the establishment was slowly deteriorating and in the process of a slow death. Space had once again become a limiting factor in the development of the School and the owner of the rented plot was clamouring for vacating the premises. A general idea had also by then formed in the public perception that the School would not develop any further and would, like several other such institutions, cease to exist in course of time.

In the year 1986 a group of concerned persons, seeing with sorrow the deterioration of the School, decided to form a Society and to take over the management of the School. This ‘Jana Seva Samithy’ was registered on 20/08/1986 and the first action taken was to locate and acquire a small plot of land at Kochickal, Mavelikara. The payment for this was obtained by way of loans with and without interest from the existing teachers, some Society members, some parents and a few sympathetic citizens of Mavelikara. The School was shifted to a semi-permanent building on this plot by the academic year 1986-87. Payment and acquisition of this plot was completed by the end of 1989. Temporary recognition up to Std.IV, from the Govt. of Kerala, was obtained in the same year. The first School van (a troublesome second hand vehicle) also started operating during this year. An adjacent plot was added to this property in 1993 and this total property of around 51.5 Cents is still in our possession. This is where our Lower Primary section was functioning.

By the year 1990, due to various reasons, it was decided to dissolve the Society and in its place register a Charitable Trust which would manage the affairs of the School. The ‘Vidyadhiraja Educational and Charitable Trust’, with Nine Founder Members, was thus registered on 12/04/1991 and it has ever since been administering the affairs of the School. By the academic year 1993-94 it became obvious that the School was in stagnation and not able to develop any further, due mainly to lack of landed area and other infrastructure, which in turn was due to lack of sufficient funding. Efforts were initiated to identify and procure enough land to enable us to apply for affiliation to the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). At long last, a suitable plot of sufficient area was located at Ponnaramthottam, a long lease agreement signed with the owner and all the necessary formalities with the CBSE completed. Affiliation with CBSE was obtained after the minimum prescribed infrastructure was completed with loans availed from banks and some Trustees and from other well wishers of the School. Our first batch of students appeared the AISSE exams in 2003. The results were very encouraging indeed and all students secured Distinction or High First Class. This trend has been maintained ever since, even up to the AISSE 2010, except for a very negligible few (less than 2%) who secured Second class. Cent per cent results have been obtained every year. A summary of our past results is given separately. The property which was taken on long lease was fully paid for and transferred to the Trust in 2005. Further construction is necessary to complete the second floor of this building. Sanction was accorded to start Senior Secondary classes from the academic session 2008-09 and our second batch has appeared for this exam in March 2011. The results continue to be very encouraging and our ex-students are performing very well, wherever they have gone.

Today, with a large number of students and staff, the school is well accepted by the population of Mavelikara and the surrounding areas. In spite of all obstacles, we are quite confident that with the support of our well wishers, we will be able to overcome our difficulties and put up a good show. The results that our students achieve are as good as or even better than those achieved by students of any other institution in the nearby districts. Our aim is to create students who are not only good pupils scoring well in exams, but who also become good individuals who some day, will hopefully bring credit to our nation. It is our endeavour to inculcate good human values, spirituality and morality in all the pupils of our institution. Towards this end Yoga, Music, Dance, Sports and a host of other extra-curricular activities are taught and encouraged to be practiced by all our students. Sanskrit is the second language opted by the School and the Bhagavad Gita is recited and explained in a planned manner, such that each student is familiar with all the verses by the time he or she leaves the school.

Various charitable activities are conducted by our school and contributions made to many worthwhile causes. Our ‘Santhwanam’ scheme enables those children who have unfortunately lost their sole earning parent [while the student was studying in our school] and are therefore unable to make fees payments, to carry on their studies with exemption from payment of fees till their 10Th Standard is completed. All our children are insured for accidental death and it is our intention to extend the scope of this insurance to cover serious illness also.

The School has, from the Academic year 2009-10 been selected as the ‘Accredited Agency’ of the ‘National Institute of Open Schooling’. This is indeed a boon to those students who find it impossible, for some reason to continue their normal school education.

The basic idea of the Trust is to impart good education at an affordable cost to all and is mainly aimed to cater to the needs of the middle and lower middle class of our society. Hence, the fee charged is absolutely the bare minimum necessary to just sustain the establishment. Being a Charitable Establishment there are around 80 students at this time, studying without any fee payments. We hope that in course of time we will be able to extend this type of facility to more and more children and pray that the Almighty blesses us in the achievement of our objectives.

Vision

our vision is to prepare and motivate students for a rapidly changing world by installing in them critical thinking skills, a global perspective and a respect for core values of honesty, loyalty, perseverance and compassion. students will succeed in the present and be ready for the future and participate in uplifting our great nation.

Mission

For achieving our vision, our entire team is committed to our students, communities and each other. we believe that our cohesion and morale help us to achieve excellence in our school. our dedication to our students and our keenness to impacting their education through innovative methods makes us a unique institution.
